Chairman’s Chat 2022
Well here we are again at the beginning of another year. I hope you all enjoyed your seasonal festivities and are looking forward, when we are able, to get out in the garden and greenhouses preparing for beautiful displays and bumper crops. We have, like the rest of the world, struggled to maintain our schedule since 2019 and although we have picked up the pieces and managed a few low key events to round off the year we have built a new handbook that will be our basis and will evolve during the year depending on availability of speakers, venue openings and virus restrictions. Financially under the astute guidance of John Usher we are maintaining a comfortable balance and therefore we at committee have decided that the current fees remain the same for the coming year, and we are including the group of the local horticultural and Istead Rise based clubs members to be able to visit meetings and events at our own members rate. We will again be subsidising some of the events for club members. So keep listening out at meetings for any members only offers on events and visits. One of these will be our 2022 Christmas party where we are having our buffet meal again, also the coach outings will have to be charged as though we have a minimum number of 30 even if we don’t sell all the seats. Any car only trips will be based on a minimal mileage charge for the fuel and any venue entry fee that we can negotiate. Some of the events will as you can see show a remarkable resemblance to our 2020 list. As we couldn’t run them due to lockdown and Covid they needed an airing and it means I can get this handbook printed on time! We need to reintroduce the tea rota with offers two members per event volunteering to host the tea table. It has worked quite well but we need to be fill the vacancies, John Usher will be processing this. I hope you all enjoy what we are doing and hope to see your continued and increased support on all our events during 2022. Unfortunately this will be my last year as chairman, but I’ll still be here to advise, guide and assist, from a normal committee position. As some of you know I am heavily involved in grass roots motorsport, and chair the Weald Motor Club. This an umbrella club of 14 south eastern clubs from Guildford to Dover. This has given me opportunities to become involved in events within forestry commission and ministry of defence land and am now taking on a role within Motorsport UK as liaison officer for this within Kent and possibly the south east England area.
